YouTube without ads on iOS

This Loon plugin removes ads from the YouTube app, including pre-roll, mid-roll, feed and Shorts ads, and adds background playback, subtitle translation and a channel blocklist. It uses MITM to filter YouTube's API responses.

Requirements

  • iPhone or iPad with Loon 3.5.1 (983) or newer
  • MITM enabled with the Loon certificate installed and trusted
  • QUIC fallback protection enabled in Loon settings
  • YouTube installed from the App Store

How to install

  1. Open this page on your iPhone or iPad and tap Install
  2. Confirm with Add Plugin when Loon opens
  3. Enable MITM in Loon and trust the certificate if you have not done it yet
  4. Open the plugin settings in Loon to turn on background playback or subtitle translation
  5. Force-close YouTube and open it again

Troubleshooting

Ads still appear

Check that MITM covers youtubei.googleapis.com and *.googlevideo.com, then clear the YouTube app cache or reinstall it.

Background playback does not work

Turn on the Background playback switch in the plugin settings and enable Background App Refresh for YouTube in iOS Settings.

Videos take long to start

Turn off the logging tool and keep the media sampling mode on headers.
